Richard Paxson

Richard J. "Dick" Paxson, 81, of Waterloo, died at Covenant Medical Center on Sunday, April 9, 2017 of natural causes. He was born December 2, 1935 in Marshalltown, the son of Oliver and Margaret Springer Paxson. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1953 and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Education in 1961 from Iowa State Teachers College. Dick served in the United States Marines Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He married Barbara J. Burnham September 1, 1957 in Marshalltown.

Dick served in the United States Marines Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.

Dick was a partner in the Paxson-Harty-Guss Insurance Agency in Waterloo for 36 years and was the Black Hawk County Magistrate for 20 years. He was a member and past president of the Waterloo Independent Insurance Agents, and retired in 2007. Dick was a member of the Elks and was on the Sunnyside Country Club board.

 Dick is survived by his wife; two sons, Joseph (Kelley), Cedar Falls and Phillip (Debbie) of Bellevue; a daughter, Ann (George) Kuhter, Toledo; his sister,  Judy (Don) Stalzer, Haverhill; a brother, Dennis, Marshalltown; 6 grandchildren: Ben and Alex Paxson, Joe and Sam Kuhter, Amber Dullard and Jennifer Paxson. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer and sister, Betty Shutt.
